Welcome Pedal Dads (Pals)
Hello!
Welcome one and all to the Pedal Dads biking (and fitness adventuring) website. My name is Kane Richards and I love to bike outdoors!
This is a work in progress and what I hope will be a labor of love filling what I think is a pretty big void in the outdoor adventuring scene in (at least) Western Alberta.
What void is this you ask? As a relatively new road biker, I have noticed that there is simply a lack of information online detailing the fantastic rides around where I live. I hear about them from other riders like for example, "Hey you should go do the Golden Triangle*". But then when it comes to finding out about what this ride is, how hard it is, a detailed route and maybe some friendly pointers there is simply nothing easy to find on the internet.
Is it because people do not want other riders to explore this beautiful country? Do selfish road warriors want to save all the amazing rides for themselves? Do these upper level riders on their $10,000.00 bikes want to keep people who maybe aren't wearing the right height of sock from finding their secret stash of open road to cruise on? I for one do not find that fair. I have done a lot of rides. I have learned the etiquette (and promptly ignored some of it) and I think the amazing rides out there should be shared with the masses.
Road biking popularity is booming. There are fantastic rides out there for all skill and fitness levels. Road bikes, hybrids and even electric bikes are welcome. This website is a place to find these rides, explore this country and frankly the more information we get out there perhaps the safer the rides become. There will be confident ready riders on the routes and everyone can have a good day.
I hope you find what you are looking for on this website. It will start with bike rides but then slowly expand to open water swimming, hikes, runs, snowshoes and cross country. Fitness for all!
I am lucky to live in an amazing country with limitless outdoor opportunities right out my backdoor. I will be posting about those adventures. If you have a route you want to share please contact me. Let's make something awesome together if we can.
Like I said at the beginning, everyone is welcome. Everyone is a Pedal Dad. Everyone is a Pedal Pal.
